This page explains what personal data is processed when you visit thepriceofgermany.com, why, and what rights you have. We keep data collection to a minimum.
1. Who is responsible
Justin Espada
Germany
Email: [email protected]
Full provider details are in the Imprint.
2. Hosting and server logs
This website is hosted on Cloudflare Pages, a service of Cloudflare, Inc., 101 Townsend St, San Francisco, CA 94107, USA. When you open a page, the servers automatically process technical data needed to deliver it and keep the site secure: your IP address, date and time of the request, the page requested, the referring page, and your browser and device type.
Legal basis: our legitimate interest in a secure, working website (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). We do not combine this data with other data about you.
3. Cookies and local storage
The site itself sets no cookies. It stores one entry in your browser’s local storage (tpog-consent) that remembers whether you accepted or declined analytics, so the banner does not appear on every visit. This is technically necessary to respect your choice (§ 25(2) TDDDG).
4. Analytics (Google Analytics)
We use Google Analytics 4 to understand which pages are read and how visitors find the site. The provider is Google Ireland Limited, Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland, and Google LLC, USA.
Analytics cookies are only set if you click Accept in the cookie banner. The Google tag is configured with Consent Mode: until you accept, analytics storage is denied and no analytics cookies are set. In this restricted state, Google may still receive limited technical information from your browser, such as the page address and your IP address, without cookies. If you accept, Google Analytics sets cookies and measures your visit, including pages viewed, approximate location, device and browser type, and time on page.
Legal basis: your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR and § 25(1) TDDDG). You can withdraw it at any time using the button above. Data may be transferred to the USA. Google participates in the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework.
5. Fonts (Google Fonts)
To display the site’s typefaces, your browser loads fonts from Google Fonts (fonts.googleapis.com and fonts.gstatic.com). This sends your IP address and browser details to Google. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in a consistent, attractive layout (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). Provider: Google Ireland Limited and Google LLC, as described above.
6. Embedded YouTube videos
Blog posts embed videos from YouTube, and some pages show video thumbnails from YouTube’s image servers (i.ytimg.com). When a page with a video loads, your browser connects to YouTube, which receives your IP address and may store or read cookies and information on your device. If you are signed in to a Google account, YouTube can link your viewing to that account. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in showing the videos that the articles are based on (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). Provider: Google Ireland Limited and Google LLC.
7. Affiliate and external links
Some links on this site lead to partners, such as tax software, travel and ticketing providers, and tools. They are marked as affiliate links where relevant (see the affiliate disclosure in the Imprint). When you click one, the partner’s website, and often an affiliate network, may set cookies to credit us a commission. We do not send them any data about you. From the moment you click, the partner’s own privacy policy applies. Links to YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, Facebook and Threads are plain links, not plug-ins, so those services receive no data from this site unless you click through.
8. Contact by email
If you email [email protected], we process your email address, your message, and any details you include in order to answer you. The address forwards through Cloudflare Email Routing to a mailbox at Google (Gmail), so your message passes through those providers. Legal basis: answering your inquiry (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR) or our legitimate interest in communicating with visitors (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). We delete messages once your inquiry is resolved, unless we must keep them for legal reasons.
9. Newsletter
If you subscribe to our newsletter, we use your email address to give you access to the free citizenship checklist download, to send you new cost breakdowns, video updates, and occasional recommendations. We use MailerLite as our email service provider, which stores your email address and sends the emails for us.
The signup form is only loaded from MailerLite’s servers after you click Subscribe, so merely visiting a page does not connect your browser to MailerLite for this purpose. When you submit the form, MailerLite receives your email address, the time of signup, and technical data such as your IP address. We use a double opt-in: you receive a confirmation email and are only added to the list once you click the link in it. MailerLite stores the signup and confirmation details as proof of your consent.
Our emails may include tracking of whether you open them and which links you click, so we can see what readers find useful. Newsletter emails may contain affiliate links (see the affiliate disclosure in the Imprint).
Legal basis: your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR). You can withdraw it at any time by clicking the unsubscribe link in any newsletter or by emailing [email protected]. We keep your data until you unsubscribe, after which it is deleted, except for a minimal record we may keep to prove your consent or to honor your unsubscribe. MailerLite may process data outside the EU, as described under Transfers to third countries below.
10. Purchases (Lemon Squeezy)
If you buy The Germany Letter Kit, the checkout and payment run through Lemon Squeezy, which acts as the merchant of record. When you click the buy button you leave this site and go to Lemon Squeezy’s checkout page, which processes your name, email address, country, payment details and order data under its own privacy policy. Lemon Squeezy shares with us the data we need to deliver the product and keep our records, such as your name, email address, country and order details. We do not receive your full payment details.
We use this data to fulfil the order, send you the download link and receipt, provide support, and meet accounting and tax duties. Legal basis: performance of the contract (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR) and legal obligations (Art. 6(1)(c) GDPR). Order records are kept for the statutory retention periods. The download and receipt emails are sent by Lemon Squeezy. Lemon Squeezy may process data outside the EU, as described under Transfers to third countries below.
11. Cost-of-living calculator
The calculator runs in your browser. The figures you enter are not sent to us and not stored on a server.
12. Transfers to third countries
Some providers named above are based in the USA. Transfers rely on the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework adequacy decision where the provider is certified, and otherwise on standard contractual clauses.
13. Your rights
Under the GDPR you have the right to access your data (Art. 15), correct it (Art. 16), have it erased (Art. 17), restrict its processing (Art. 18), receive it in a portable format (Art. 20), and object to processing based on legitimate interests (Art. 21). Where processing is based on consent, you can withdraw it at any time with effect for the future (Art. 7(3)). To use any of these rights, email [email protected].
You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority, for example the authority responsible for your place of residence in Germany.
14. Changes to this policy
We update this page when the site or the law changes, for example when we add a new service. Last updated: October 13, 2026.
